At Dyer UMC we have three basic purposes:
-
#1 - To give honor and Glory to Jesus Christ in
all that we do! We believe that Christ is both imminent and
transcendent - that is to say that he is above all and in all - it is
solely for His glory and honor that we exist - both personally
an corporately. Therefore, before we do anything, we must ask -
"How is Christ ultimately glorified in this?"
-
#2 - To serve and reach out in love to those outside
the body of Christ! We believe that according to Scripture,
God chose to put our need for a redeemer in front of even His
own life (Romans 5:8). Therefore to live a life that reflects that
love and sacrifice, we must put the needs of those outside the
body of Christ before our own needs. It is our desire not just
to serve those outside to body, but to reach them with the Gospel
of Jesus Christ! (John 3:16)
-
#3 - To love, support and serve those in our Church
family in order to raise up disciples of Christ! We understand
the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) to be a directive from
Christ Himself to raise up disciples in His name. Noticeably,
we are #3, but that does not mean that we are not an important task!
This is where the juggle comes in - we need to put the needs of the
lost and dying world before our own, but we must be daily feeding
ourselves and training for the battle of reaching the lost!
